As a Semester@CERA student, you’ll take four environmental studies courses taught by Grinnell faculty. Every other year, Grinnell faculty members from each division (humanities, social studies, and sciences) apply for and are selected to teach in this program. Their courses make use of CERA’s distinct habitats, environmental education facilities, and regional sites of interest. A fourth team-taught course, “Research and Reflection,” supports students’ independent research and community projects. Throughout the program, you’ll participate in field trips that complement your coursework. Students will engage with local people and organizations working in environmental science, policy, creative arts, conservation and land management, and agriculture.
Commuting from campus and studying alongside second, third, and fourth-year peers from Grinnell, you’ll have the benefits of an off-campus experience while still participating in broader campus life at the College.
