[February 16, 2019]
Dear Quinn,
Thank you for your letter to the Board of Trustees sent on February 9.
The trustees who spoke with students on Thursday evening in the Spencer Grill appreciated the engagement and discussion. In hindsight, I wish we had invited you to address the Board or that you had asked to do so, rather than staging a protest which I think we can all agree did not give us an opportunity for constructive dialogue.
I’m grateful that you have reached out with this thoughtful correspondence. Although we may not agree on the means, I believe we can find common ground in addressing the issues you’ve raised concerning the struggles of some Grinnell student workers. I appreciate the passion and energy you and your colleagues have demonstrated; you have given College leadership, administration and trustees alike, a great deal to think about.
I look forward to being in communication with you again in the near future.
Sincerely,
Patricia Jipp Finkelman ‘80
Chair, Grinnell College Board of Trustees
