Nina Kouchi ’22 loved how welcoming and curious the students were when she visited Grinnell. Her excitement about Grinnell has only grown as she has traveled across the country for golf, explored the town of Grinnell, carried out a computer science Mentored Advanced Project, and spent time enjoying Iowa’s natural beauty.
Catherine Stone ’22 came to Grinnell excited about the small classes, the close relationships with faculty, and the powerful student voice. She quickly became involved in the community and with Grinnell Concerts. While working her way toward medical school, she has also immersed herself in the environment through ecology courses, and in language and culture through French courses.
Grinnell College has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations to expand its efforts in recruiting and supporting transfer students from both two- and four-year institutions.
When Sophie Jackson ’22 visited Grinnell, she was enamored by the diversity, authenticity, and openness of the students she interacted with. Those interactions continued throughout her four years and developed into friendships and relationships that she will continue to value after graduation. Ahon Gooptu’s (’21) passion for theater and care for community took him from Kolkata, India to Grinnell — and then to London, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and more! Along the way, he studied Shakespeare, discovered the power of digital storytelling, and completed mentored research projects.

Your campus and classroom experience is going to challenge you to grow and expand your understanding of the world. But there is much that can be learned off campus, too.
Students experience random acts of kindness around the town here, and there are myriad opportunities to participate and find a seat at the table as active and engaged citizens.
Many of your fellow students become personally involved in a community, social, or educational endeavor off campus, which strengthens their college experience. I hope you will be part of this movement.
