Residency Policy

Grinnell College is a residential college with 19 residence halls and eight College-owned houses. All new students are required to live on campus, which means enrolling in our room and board plan.  First-year students may not live in College-owned houses. Check out our residency policy for more details.

Pet Policy

Amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, rodents (except ferrets), or reptiles that are non-poisonous and non-dangerous are permitted in student rooms. Conditions that must be met for pet ownership on campus include:

  • the permission of the roommate;
  • registration with the RLC (see below for more information);
  • proper care of the pet, including feeding and cleaning;
  • proper housing (i.e. cage/container) for the pet (see below for more information)

If you are considering bringing a pet on campus, please refer to the full pet policy located ion the residential life policies and procedures page, search for key word 'pets'.
