The Caffe Del Foro
by Sam Dunnington '14
Anywhere I can eat mozzarella sticks until my head starts to hurt is a place I'm happy to be, but sometimes the Spencer Grille leaves me wanting for finer cuisine. I wasn't sure if there was ever a better alternative until I stumbled across the pictured menu, tucked away in the files regarding the Forum. The cover displays an eagle, printed in delicate copper, beckoning you towards the delicacies on offer at the Caffe del Foro. When the Forum opened in 1964, the goal was to provide a space where students could participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, including billiards, dining rooms, and a coffee shop, the Caffe del Foro. The shop offered an intimate atmosphere where table service was offered, and delicacies like Gelato del Caffe Colombiano could be had alongside an array of imported cheeses and espresso. Sadly, the Caffe del Foro was too good to be true and by 1968, it seems to have disappeared from the Forum literature. If you, or anyone you know, have memories of this swanky little coffee joint, we'd love to hear from you!
