Call for Faculty Participation

Nov 28, 2016

This summer, Grinnell College will again host "Summerfest" and invites all faculty members to consider leading a public workshop, presentation, or lecture to engage people of all ages with the many aspects of the liberal arts.

About Summerfest

Summerfest is a daylong celebration of learning and discovery for curious minds of all ages. In addition to the selected faculty workshops, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy creative collaborative performances and family-oriented activities offered by a range of area cultural organizations. Participants will immerse themselves in the academic, cultural, and social atmosphere of Grinnell College to connect, explore, and discover. Summerfest is free and open to the public.

When: Saturday, June 17. Activities will be scheduled throughout the day, with specific schedule and times to be determined.

Requirements for Faculty Workshops, Presentations, or Lectures

Summerfest welcomes submissions for programs that are relevant and engaging, and thought-provoking yet accessible to the general public. This may be a workshop that you've presented for the public before (e.g., for ACES, Bucket Courses, etc.), or a new topic you'd like to explore. Workshops may last one to two hours. Longer timeslots can be made available as needed.

Honorarium: $500

Selection: To submit a workshop for consideration, please complete an application for each topic you'd like to have considered. Participants will be selected to provide the greatest breadth of workshops for the day. A minimum of six and a maximum of 18 faculty workshops will be selected. If interested in presenting a creative collaborative work, Grinnell College faculty members are also invited to submit proposals through the general Summerfest Creative Collaboration Application.

Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted through January 30, 2017 (1 week after winter break).
