College to Show Encore Productions of London’s National Theatre

Nov 20, 2018

Event Details

Time: 3 p.m.
Date: Sunday, Nov. 25
Place: Harris Center Cinema, 1114 10th Ave.

Event Description

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, adapted by Simon Stephens from the bestselling novel by Mark Haddon, and directed by Marianne Elliot, has received seven Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards. This play is suitable for children age 11 and older. There is some strong language in this production, as there is in the novel. This occurs at the very beginning of the show and infrequently at other points during the show.

As the play opens, Christopher, 15, stands beside Mrs. Shears’ dead dog, Wellington. The dog has been speared with a garden fork. It is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in the book he is writing to try to solve the mystery of who killed Wellington. Christopher has an extraordinary brain, exceptional at math while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.

Admission

Admission to each production, payable at the door, is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Admission is free to Grinnell College students, faculty, and staff.

Grinnell College will stream three more National Theatre Live encore productions on Sundays at 3 p.m. during the 2019 spring semester:

  • “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” on Feb. 10
