Epidemiologist Talks About her Role in Public Health

Dr. Gena Kucera Kanas '97 lectured in the Department of Chemistry thanks to the Alumni in the Classroom program. Kanas's visit included two days with the first-year students in Assistant Professor of chemistry Erick Leggans's tutorial entitled "Chasing Pathogens: The Rise and Fall of Epidemics," lunch with the tutorial students, dinner with chemistry faculty, and a presentation during the weekly chemistry seminar. Her seminar talk was titled "Public Health Impact: Role of the Epidemiologist."

Kanas is currently a consultant on the cancer epidemiology team, supporting Kantar Health’s proprietary oncology database and custom oncology epidemiology analyses. Kanas has an extensive background in cancer epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology. Over the course of her career she has experience with study design, management, and statistical analysis of case-control, cohort, and randomized control trials, as well as reviewing treatment patterns and adverse events of various cancers.
