Iowa Private College Week

Jul 28, 2017

Grinnell College invites prospective students and their families to explore the campus in Grinnell, Iowa, during Iowa Private College Week, July 31 through Aug. 4, 2017.

Iowa Private College Week is a weeklong program during which 25 independent Iowa colleges and universities invite prospective students and their families to visit their campuses. It's a great time for prospective students to learn about Grinnell’s academic and social opportunities and to meet with faculty, staff, students, and coaches.

Grinnell's sessions will run from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Each session includes:

  • A welcome address;
  • A presentation about admission and financial aid;
  • A panel discussion with college faculty, students, and staff;
  • A campus tour; and
  • An informal meeting with coaches to learn more about Grinnell athletics.

Prospective students may register online to visit Grinnell College. As part of the registration process, prospective students will be entered into drawings for prizes such as Amazon Gift Cards, a GoPro Hero camera, iPad minis, and more.

In addition to the morning sessions, Grinnell College offers a limited number of afternoon admission interviews. These are one-on-one conversations that last from 20 to 30 minutes. Interviews are not required for admission to Grinnell, but they are evaluative and will be considered with applications for admission. Interviews are scheduled separately, through an online registration form.

Lila Hawkinson, assistant director of admission, says the weeklong program “offers students and families an informative snapshot of the Grinnellian experience. Iowa Private College Week is a great way for prospective students to experience Grinnell College and to discover what a liberal arts education offers, as well as to determine which of the participating institutions could be a good fit for their futures.”
