The Ladies Education Society Honors Scholarship Recipients at Fall Tea

The 161-year-old Ladies Education Society awards scholarships, continuing a tradition established during the Civil War.

Five Grinnell College senior women were recognized at the Ladies Education Society (LES) Annual Fall Tea held at the President’s house on September 29, 2023. Founded in 1862, the Society annually awards scholarships.  Students identifying as women are selected based on academic excellence, character, leadership and financial need.

The 2023 scholarship recipients are:  

  • Bailey Sowers ’24, Biological Chemistry and French

  • Oluwatobi/Jemzy Alabi ’24, Computer Science

  • Meghna Adhikari ’24, Sociology and English with a Peace and Conflict Studies Concentration

  • Sophia Noyes ’24, Psychology and Spanish

  • Matilda Carne ’24, Art History and Physics

The 2023-2024 LES officers are: 

  • Michael Mackenzie, President

  • Harriet Adelberg, Vice President  

  • Leslie Lyons, Secretary  

  • Lynn Cavanagh, Treasurer  

  • Sue Drake, Historian and Archivist
