Marc Reed Leads Regional Diversity Consortium at Grinnell
Vice President Marc Reed chairs regional consortium focused on advancing inclusive excellence across liberal arts colleges.
Higher education leaders from across the Midwest gathered at Grinnell College June 23–25 as the College hosted the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) Diversity Officers Consortial Group Meeting. Chaired by Marc Reed, vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion and chief diversity and inclusion officer at Grinnell College, the annual gathering brought together diversity leaders to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore strategies for advancing inclusive excellence across ACM institutions.
The consortium provides a collaborative space for chief diversity officers and equity leaders from ACM member colleges to discuss emerging challenges, exchange promising practices, and support one another in creating more welcoming and equitable campus communities.
"As colleges continue to navigate complex issues affecting our campuses and communities, opportunities to come together, learn from one another, and collaborate are more important than ever," Reed said. "The ACM Diversity Officers Consortial Group creates a space where we can share ideas, strengthen our collective work, and continue building institutions where every member of our campus communities can thrive."
Reed has dedicated his career to advancing equity and social justice through strategic leadership and organizational change. Throughout his career, he has developed and implemented diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plans that have increased the representation and engagement of individuals from historically underrepresented communities. At Grinnell College, he is leading efforts to establish a sustainable framework that embeds diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into institutional practices and culture.
The three-day meeting included opportunities for professional development, peer consultation, and discussions on topics affecting colleges and universities across the region.
The Associated Colleges of the Midwest is a consortium of selective liberal arts colleges that collaborate to strengthen academic programs, expand opportunities for students, and address shared priorities across member institutions. The Diversity Officers Consortial Group serves as one of the consortium's collaborative networks, bringing together campus leaders to advance equity and inclusion through shared learning and partnership.
