“Two of opera’s most thrilling dramatic sopranos, Christine Goerke and Nina Stemme, reprise their fierce portrayals of the title princess,” according to the Met Opera. “Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes the podium to conduct Franco Zeffirelli’s dazzling production of Puccini’s final masterpiece, which also features tenors Roberto Aronica and Marco Berti as Calàf, sopranos Eleonora Buratto and Hibla Gerzmava as Liù, and bass-baritone James Morris as Timur.”

A half hour before the streaming begins, second-year students Vivian Neal and Maggie Parke will give the opera talk. It will be based on what they are learning about Turandot in a music history course. Students in the class choose one of the operas scheduled to be streamed this season and research its historical context, formal characteristics, and scholarly treatment, and then present their findings at an opera talk.
