Movies Under the Stars

This year, Grinnell College continues Movies Under the Stars — a summer series of free outdoor movies. All three movies in the series are shown after dark at 9 p.m. on Friday evenings.

Attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. There will be free popcorn and lemonade. Other refreshments will be available for purchase.

The series concludes with the new Beauty and the Beast, which will be shown on Friday, August 4, at the Grinnell College Golf Course, 933 13th Ave., Grinnell.

This live action version of the original 1991 animated movie was released on March 17. Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast’s hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.
