The Magic Flute follows Tamino and Papageno as they embark on a quest to save the kidnapped Princess Pamina. With the help of a magical flute and set of bells, their journey leads them to Sarastro’s temple, where a series of trials and tests await them. This 90-minute production features some of Mozart’s most famous tunes sung in English.

OPERA Iowa, which is affiliated with Des Moines Metro Opera, gives young people and adults a quality arts experience today while striving to build new, enthusiastic opera audiences for tomorrow. The eight-member troupe is made up of young professionals from across the country who are committed to inspiring their audiences through quality, live theatrical experiences.

For more than 32 years OPERA Iowa has created magic in rural schools, city classrooms, cafetoriums, community centers, concert halls, and gymnasiums. The award-winning, regional arts education tour features live musical performances designed specifically for young people and families, comprehensive study guides, curriculum-based workshops, and master classes.

Public Events performances are free, but tickets are required. Tickets are available to the public, beginning three to four business days prior to the performance, at the box office in the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts. The box office is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone reservations are not accepted, although interested individuals may call the box office at 641-269-4444 during open hours to determine whether tickets are still available.
