Presidential Search Update May 2020

May 14, 2020
Dear Grinnellians,

The Presidential Search Committee is continuing its work to select the College's next leader. Despite the complexities of the process due to of the pandemic, the opportunity to lead Grinnell has attracted a strong and diverse pool of candidates who are drawn to the College's excellent reputation and impressive trajectory. Among our candidates are sitting presidents and provosts of peer institutions, deans from research universities, and several others with less traditional backgrounds. Candidates are attracted to the College's deep commitment to the transformative power of a liberal arts education; to the individually advised curriculum; and to the strong caliber of the faculty, students, and staff; the list goes on and on

The search committee has met several times in recent months to discuss the most important criteria to use in identifying the College's next president, and to review the developing candidate pool. These conversations and the vetting process will continue through the spring and early summer, including search committee video interviews with the most compelling candidates.

While the candidate review portion of the process is confidential, we are pleased to report that the process is moving apace. As co-chairs, we are deeply grateful for the commitment and service of the members of the search committee, and for their dedication to identifying an exceptional new leader for our College.

We will continue to post updates about the search on the College's Presidential Search webpage as appropriate. Please know that you can continue to write to the search committee using the Presidential Search email address. We welcome your input at any time.
