Scarlet & Black Claims Third Straight Excellence Award

The S&B Awarded Iowa College Media Association’s Overall Print/Online Excellence Award for 2026

Feb 16, 2026

Staff members of The Scarlet & Black, Grinnell College’s student newspaper, recently attended the Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) awards ceremony, where they achieved remarkable success, earning multiple individual and staff awards. For the third year in a row, the S&B was the recipient of the Iowa College Media Association Overall Print/Online Excellence Award—a testament to journalistic excellence at Grinnell.

Co-Editor-in-Chiefs Taylor Nunley ’26 and Sarah Evans ’26 reflect on the success of The S&B and its staff.

Evans ‘26 shares “Those that do not work for the newspaper are always shocked when I tell them how much time and effort goes into each publication that The S&B puts out — and at a time when local journalism is systematically underfunded and undervalued across the country, that effort is more important than ever. The fact that this staff has been able to produce top-quality journalism without a formal major or program is incredible, and demonstrates the passion that the members of our team bring each and every day.”
