'Souffler plus fort que la mer' free at Strand Theatre

Grinnell residents and the Grinnell College community are invited to attend the world premiere of the French drama Souffler plus fort que la mer (Blowing louder than the sea) on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Strand Theatre, 921 Main St., Grinnell.

The film, which will be shown in French with English subtitles, will start at 7 p.m. Admission is free, thanks to the sponsorship of the Institute for Global Engagement at Grinnell College. Following the screening, one of the stars, Aurélien Recoing, who plays the the father, Loïc, will be available to answer questions from the audience.

In Souffler plus fort que la mer, Julie (Olivia Ross) is a 20-year-old living with her family on a small island. She helps her father, Loïc, on the family fishing boat, “Invicible.” Loïc decides to scrap the boat. This decision turns the life of each family member upside down. As Julie finds solace in saxophone music, the interaction soon drives her to the brink of madness.

During the week of Souffler plus fort que la mer’s world premiere, the Department  of French will host Recoing at Grinnell College. Recoing is a French actor and stage director born in 1958 whose career in theater and film industry started very early in his life. He has appeared in many television movies, mini-series and short films, primarily in the drama genre. In 2001, Recoing was nominated for the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor for his performance in the drama film "Time Out."
