Special Campus Memo: Update on Search for Chief Financial Officer

Dear Grinnellians,

As we continue the search for Kate Walker's successor, I have enacted interim reporting and responsibility changes to ensure continued smooth operations in the Office of the Treasurer. Effective Nov. 6:

• Nancy Combs, controller and assistant treasurer, will serve as Interim CFO, reporting to me. She will be responsible for accounting (including cashier and payroll), human resources, debt management, risk management and insurance, and budget planning and administration.

• Rick Whitney, assistant vice president for facilities management, will continue his current responsibilities for facilities management and construction project oversight. Rick, too, will report to me.

• John Kalkbrenner, assistant vice president for auxiliary services and economic development, will continue his current scope of duties. John will report to Angela Voos, chief of staff.

Meanwhile, Kate and I are working on an agreement for her to function as a part-time senior adviser for a short period of time to provide continuity and support. I am grateful for her offer to serve in this capacity during the extended search.

A farewell reception for Kate is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 3, 3 to 5 p.m. in the JRC, 2nd floor lobby.
