A new Grinnell course, Historical Landscapes of Grinnell, encourages students to explore local history and build connections in the community.

Traveling to Cuba, Louisiana, and Brazil, 15 Grinnellians spent a semester studying the colonial legacy of sugar production.

Over commencement weekend, mathematics and statistics faculty announced the winners of their annual departmental prizes: Isidora Bailly-Hall ’24, Kate Bartz ’25, Samantha Hall '24, Hyeyun Jung ’25, and Lilli Lewis ’25.

Pascal Lafontant, professor of biology, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar Grant to conduct developmental biology research in Sri Lanka during the 2024-25 academic year.

Through the program, students will have the chance to engage with inspiring leaders who are making an enduring difference in the world, fostering interdisciplinary creativity, and promoting civic engagement and systemic change. Applications open until Aug. 14, 2024. 

Stephanie Jones and Feven Adane Getachew ’24 have been building and collaborating on a digital humanities project that aims to examine curricular choices in the classroom and bring awareness to the frequency of curriculum violence towards Black students.

Students in the Spring 2024 Global Learning Program Course Emerging Infectious Diseases traveled to South Africa and Alaska to conduct fieldwork at the forefront of disease ecology.

What began as a summer side project in 2020 grew into a yearslong collaborative study in the Lafontant laboratory. Now, Lafontant, professor of biology, is proud to have his name listed after not one, but four, Grinnell alums on a paper published in Zebrafish.

Mikey O'Conner and Maddy Thompson receive the Robert N. Noyce Senior Student Award, and Jemzy Alabi, Micah Cantor, Mia Hines, and Tanmaie Kailash named winners of the Henry M. And Theresa P. Walker Endowed Prize for Excellence in Computer Science.
