What you love about your territory: As someone who grew up in the middle of a desert (which is beautiful in its own right), I'm constantly impressed by the natural beauty of my territories. There's so much green! There's so much water! I feel especially fortunate to travel these regions right when summer is changing into fall, so I get to see the leaves changing colors.

What you love about Grinnell: The people of Grinnell are unmatched. I had so many professors who closely mentored and advised me, constantly lifting me up and guiding me towards the opportunities that made my Grinnell experience incredible. I also made lifelong friends who are among the smartest, kindest, and most passionate people I've ever met. Every time I catch up with them, I'm hugely impressed by the work they're doing - making beautiful art, doing fascinating research, and helping make the world a better place. The night skies are pretty nice too!

Hobbies/activities: On my best days, I'm an avid reader, runner, and singer with a deep love for theatre. On lazier days, though, you can usually find me binging reality TV (Survivor and RuPaul's Drag Race are my favorites!).

Advice about searching for schools: Look at the other students applying to and attending these institutions. Are these people you want to be friends with? Are they people you want to be like? College can be four of the most formative years of your life. Make sure you're spending them with people you admire and respect.

Advice about applying for schools: Take lots of time crafting your personal essay. Even if writing is one of your strengths, this is likely a whole new genre of writing. Run it by your teachers to make sure it's well written, run it by your friends to make sure it sounds uniquely you, revise it as many times as you think are necessary, then do it one more time for good measure!
