Beth Perlman
Dean for Health and Wellness
Beth (she/her) serves as the Dean for Health and Wellness. She provides strategic leadership and management of SHAW and oversees SHAW's dedicated leadership team. Prior to this position, she was the Director of Counseling Services at SHAW.
Beth is also a licensed psychologist. She received her MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. She completed her APA-accredited internship at the University of Washington and Post-Doctoral Internship at The Claremont Colleges.
Beth’s style of therapy is empowerment-focused and collaborative, taking into consideration the unique individual, sociocultural, and familial contexts of each person. Her goal is to provide an affirming environment where students can explore areas of concern with both self-compassion and curiosity. While Beth considers herself a generalist, she has professional interests in grief/loss, self-worth, suicide prevention, trauma, identity development and intersectionality, body healing, as well as relational concerns.
Beth feels grateful to be part of the Grinnell College community. In her free time, Beth enjoys tending to a small (but mighty) indoor jungle of plants and unwinding with a good book, two chaotic dogs, and an opinionated cat!"
