Acting Director of Grinnell-in-London & Associate Director of the Global Learning Program
Susie Duke is the Acting Director of Grinnell-in-London (GIL) and the Associate Director of the Global Learning Program (GLP). Grinnell-in-London is a longstanding and flagship semester long off-campus study experience for Grinnell students to study in London as a cohort under the guidance of two Grinnell College faculty. The GLP is an innovative opportunity for first-year students to engage in an interdisciplinary and team-taught course coupled with guided experiential learning in at least two sites globally during spring break and summer.
Along with GIL and GLP, Susie works to develop all short-term faculty led global opportunities available to Grinnell College students, faculty, and staff. This program is called FLAG (Faculty-led Learning Across the Globe). FLAG includes faculty-mentored summer research in international destinations, global course-embedded travel, and performance groups abroad. Susie also designs and implements intercultural training, program assessments, and advises students toward eligibility for other strategic global experiences.
Prior to Grinnell, Susie taught middle school French for seven years and facilitated several international and intercultural exchanges for high school and college student groups, and she hosted French teachers here in Iowa.
When not traveling, she feels grateful for the country life of small-town Grinnell. She is usually found on her horse, teaching her son to be a cowboy, or wearing out her running shoes on the vast grid of Iowa gravel roads.
Feel free to email Susie with questions about participating in or leading a GLP, GIL, or other FLAG program.
