Hua Lin

Hua joined Grinnell in 2026 and works in analytic number theory. This area studies, for example, the distribution of prime numbers and questions like "are there infinitely many primes that end with the digit 7?".

Before this, Hua was a postdoc at Northwestern, and before that, he was a graduate student at the University of California, Irvine. If you trace his academic lineage, you can eventually find David Hilbert!

Outside of math, he has various hobbies and interests like a normal human being.
