Alyssa Provencio

Director of Counseling Services

Offices, Departments, or Centers: Student Health and Wellness ,

Alyssa (she/hers) serves as the Director of Counseling Services at SHAW. She oversees SHAW’s mental health support services, working toward ensuring timely, quality, and culturally responsive care.

As a clinician, Alyssa strives to co-create a relationship with clients that is rooted in safety, authenticity, and curiosity. Alyssa views therapy as a space for clients to explore themselves, and her role is to help empower them to reach their goals. Alyssa is trained as a generalist, but enjoys working with students as they navigate adjusting to college, relationship challenges, family stress, traumatic experiences, or identity-related concerns.

Alyssa grew up in Albuquerque, NM and moved to Iowa in 2016 to attend Loras College, where she earned her BA in Psychology and Religious Studies. She then went on to earn her doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Iowa and completed an APA-accredited internship at the College of William & Mary’s Counseling Center. Alyssa is licensed as a psychologist in Virginia, and is working toward licensure in Iowa under the supervision of Dr. Charles Bermingham.

Alyssa enjoys the sense of community at Grinnell College, and is grateful to be a Squirrel! When she’s not at work, Alyssa loves to care for her houseplants, play sports, and watch the latest true crime show on Netflix.
