Alexey Shvyrkov
Alexey Shvyrkov is a scholar of Soviet and post-Soviet literature, film, and culture whose research explores the intersections of empire, colonialism, and identity formation across Eurasia. His work focuses particularly on Central Asia and the Caucasus, examining how writers from the so-called Soviet periphery negotiated the promises and contradictions of modernization, state socialism, and imperial power. Drawing on postcolonial theory and intellectual history, he is particularly interested in how cultural production both reinforced and challenged Soviet imperial narratives, as well as how the legacies of these dynamics continue to shape the post-Soviet world.
