Hai-Dang Phan teaches the survey and seminar in ethnic American literature, the craft of poetry, introduction to literary analysis, and studies in genre (the essay).
He is the author of the chapbook Small Wars (Convulsive Editions, 2016). His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The New Yorker, POETRY Magazine, Best American Poetry 2016, jubilat, New England Review, and elsewhere.
A recipient of fellowships and scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, the American Literary Translators Association, and the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, he holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Florida and a PhD in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
With David Perez of the Writing Lab, he co-founded and directs the Literary Translation Collective, an affinity group of faculty and students dedicated to the art of literary translation at Grinnell and beyond.
