Academic Policies

Grinnell College is noted for its open curriculum, consistent with our philosophy of student self-governance. To provide structure to this, the College has a significant number of policies to guide a student's academic life.

Academic Advising can help you navigate. If you have questions about any of the academic policies or other procedures at the College, first consult the Academic Policies section of the Student Handbook. Then bring your questions to the staff at the Academic Advising Office, speak with your faculty adviser, or contact the Office of the Registrar.

Leaves of absence (i.e., taking a gap semester or gap year) is just one such policy. Read more about leaves of absences and consult with us.
