Building on successes and lessons of previous efforts, Grinnell College’s strategic planning process will shape the College’s direction within the current and transforming landscape of higher education. We ask how Grinnell College’s mission can best be manifested into the future with an emphasis on five key areas:
- Community
- Educational Excellence and Continuity
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Health and Well-Being
- Financial Sustainability
Recognizing that colleges are complex organizations with a myriad of formal and informal governing structures, the College is drawing on a collective impact model of strategic planning, which puts a premium on the value of groups coming together to support common goals. A collective impact process is also an end in itself — one important goal is that the process brings people together in new and sustainable ways. To respect the continued challenges of working during a pandemic, the planning process will be geared toward simplicity and flexibility, so stakeholders can participate meaningfully in ways that are not overly burdensome.
