Student Health Insurance

Requirements

Grinnell College requires all full-time students to have Affordable Care Act compliant health insurance. In accordance with this requirement, all students are billed $1,841.00 for the Student Health Insurance Plan.

Beginning July 14, 2020:

  • All students must visit the Gallagher Student Health website and either enroll in or waive the Student Health Insurance Plan by the deadline of Aug. 14, 2020.
  • The coverage for the Student Health Insurance Plan is from Aug. 14, 2020 to Aug. 13, 2021. For more information about the plan, visit the Gallagher Student Health website
  • In order to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan, your private health insurance plan must be based in the United States and be Affordable Care Act compliant. International policies and out-of-state Medicaid policies are not accepted.

New for the 2020-21 year only:

  • Students residing outside the U.S. will be able to waive the insurance for the term(s) they are not in the U.S.
  • Students with out-of-state Medicaid will be able to waive the insurance if they are living in their home state.  Upon return to campus, they will need Student Health Insurance coverage (the college will cover that charge for this year only).

If an acceptable waiver form is not submitted by the Aug. 14, 2020, deadline, the student will be automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan and the premium amount listed on the student billing statement must be paid.

The deadline to waive or enroll in the school plan is Aug. 14, 2020.
