Campus Conditions Update

Dear Grinnellians,

I hope that this email finds you and yours well. As you may have heard, Grinnell, and much of central Iowa, was hit by a tremendous and destructive storm system yesterday known as a derecho. There has been extensive damage in the town of Grinnell to properties, especially trees. Our current assessment of the Grinnell campus indicates substantial damage to trees but very little property damage. We are most fortunate. At this moment, there is no power in the town or surrounding areas, and college and community Grinnellians are working heroically to remove trees, help neighbors, and restore power.

I ask for your understanding and compassion during this challenging time. You are unlikely to hear back immediately from our dedicated faculty and staff as many of them have no power or internet; advisors, mentors, and admissions' staff are all experiencing post-storm recovery. Notifications thus far indicate that power will be slow to return to campus and the town; we will remain hopeful that it can restored by the end of the week and will do our very best to connect with you until then. Please keep our wonderful, vibrant community in your thoughts as we continue to work our way back to normal business operations.

Wishing you all well,

Anne F. Harris
President
