Now on display on Burling's first floor is “A Living World,” a collection of fiction, poetry, film, cookbooks, history, and science centered on our relationships to and uses of the land.

This summer, four Grinnell College students are collaborating with Chris Conway, visiting associate professor of cognitive psychology, to investigate attention and learning —along with other variables that can affect them, such as personality, musical experience, and stress levels.

Stephanie Jones and Feven Adane Getachew ’24 have been building and collaborating on a digital humanities project that aims to examine curricular choices in the classroom and bring awareness to the frequency of curriculum violence towards Black students.

Associate Professor and Chair of the Computer Science Department Peter-Michael Osera  has received a significant grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

As a Grinnell College student, Frederick Morgan Taylor 1926 sang first tenor with Glee Club; stared in a play, “The Goal;” studied English and business administration, and was known for dancing the best Charleston on campus. He also was the fastest hurdler in the world.

When a few retired Iowa Congregational ministers wanted to develop a retirement community in the late 1940s, they chose Grinnell for its history as the center of Iowa Congregationalism and close ties to the College. Since then — enriched by common ground and shared goals — connections between the College and the Mayflower community have just grown stronger.

Donations from Grinnell College, the Grinnell Mutual Group Foundation, Poweshiek County, and others also joined the efforts to get the two ambulances ready to help the people of Poweshiek and Jasper Counties (serving 156 square miles).

Grinnell alum Sarah Jolie ’87 has always hung her Black Lives Matter and Pride flag on her front porch – and continued to do so despite the persistence of a chronic vandal.

Summer in Grinnell is filled with activity and beauty, showcasing the campus and surrounding community in full bloom.
