The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) has named Thai Theodoro ’27 a member of the 2026 Student Project Team, joining an exceptional group of college students that represents the next generation of Latino journalists.

The NAHJ Project Team is the organization’s premiere training program, where college students work alongside professional mentors to improve their newsroom skills at the annual NAHJ Conference and Expo, which will be held July 22-25 in New Orleans. The experience will focus on writing, reporting, video shooting and editing, photography, and social media to help prepare participants for a competitive job market.

Theodoro, a political science major from São Paulo, Brazil, discovered the opportunity after an alum gave a presentation on Grinnell’s campus.

“I first learned about NAHJ at a Rosenfield talk by alum Silvia Foster-Frau ’15, and immediately joined the association,” says Theodoro. “I could not have imagined that a year later, I would have the chance to take part in the NAHJ Student Project and report alongside other Latino student journalists from across the country. More than anything, NAHJ and this program are a testament to why representation in journalism matters and why I want to keep doing this work.”

This summer, Theodoro is interning as a correspondent at The Boston Globe. She has previously worked at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Des Moines Register. She is also a part of the New York Times Corps, under the mentorship of Midwest correspondent, Ernesto Londoño.

On campus she serves as the Community Editor for the Scarlet and Black, the award-winning student-run newspaper.
