Grinnell College President Anne F. Harris will serve on the Capital Crossroads Advisory Council leading the development of the 2040 regional vision plan. The Advisory Council represents a diverse array of organizations to ensure people of different backgrounds and interests have an opportunity to inform the future direction of Central Iowa.
Staff council recognized the following staff members as the fall 2022 Staff Council Grand Grinnellian Award winners. Each of the winners has demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the college by being an excellent performer in their duties while representing the core values of the institution, our THRIVE principles, and the mission of Grinnell College.

I write today to share the sad news of the passing on Saturday of one of our College’s most remarkable members: President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus George Drake ’56. For the great many Grinnellians who knew George Drake, this news will bring great sadness.
Grinnell College’s Vice President of Community Engagement and Strategic Planning Monica Chavez-Silva has been asked to serve on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Higher-Ed Engagement Network, a think tank focused on providing colleges with the support, resources, and assistance necessary to spark inclusivity, sustainability, and higher standards of living in communities which they call home.
Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members were invited to celebrate the new and renovated spaces, which support teaching, learning, and collaboration. The event included tours of the building, a formal dedication, and an all-campus luncheon on Kington Plaza.
Applications Open for Fall 2022–2023 Mini-Grant Program
Intended for small- to mid-sized projects that seek to benefit the population of Grinnell and bring its people together, the Grinnell College Community Mini-Grant Program provides funds necessary to spark change.
Being the first in a new role comes with both responsibility and possibility. I see this residency as a chance to build a foundation that combines rigorous academic inquiry with hands-on, community-centered innovation.
I’m passionate about the idea of creating work that lives outside traditional gallery settings — art and design that people encounter in their everyday lives, often without even realizing it at first.
The College kind of portrays itself as having a lot of cultural diversity, and it’s not just advertising; it’s real. ... I’ve found a very nice group of friends here.
