The Carnegie Classifications have long been a hallmark of institutions that excel in research and practice. This year, under the newly reimagined classification system, Grinnell has been designated as a Research College and University, reflecting the College’s ongoing commitment to scholarly inquiry and impactful research.

The project, titled "Fundamental Studies of the Influence of Ligands on the Molecular Structure of Noble Metal Nanoclusters," will explore the electronic and molecular structures of these small but impactful materials. The grant is funded through the DOE Office of Science (Office of Basic Energy Sciences) as part of the DOE’s Funding for Accelerated, Inclusive Research (FAIR) program.

Staff members of The Scarlet & Black, Grinnell College’s student newspaper, recently attended the Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) awards ceremony, where they achieved remarkable success, earning multiple individual and staff awards. Their dedication to high-quality journalism was recognized with one of the most prestigious honors of the evening—being named 2024 News & Multimedia Organization of the Year.

Students at Grinnell College have been putting their passion for animals into action through a collaboration with the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS), a local nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals. In partnership with PALS, Grinnell students have been socializing and helping dogs learn basic manners in order to give them a better chance of finding loving, forever homes.

Some of Grinnell’s financially savvy students surveyed their classmates to find out what they knew about the College’s endowment. The results challenged a few assumptions and shed light on what today’s students think about the endowment’s operation and purpose.

Professors Albert Lacson and Cori Jakubiak envisioned a course that would help students engage with place. What they and their students found were connections with people from the town through a shared history and place.
