Paul Valencic

Staff Counselor

Paul Valencic grew up in Marion, Iowa, a city located just north of Cedar Rapids. Paul received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Iowa. He then earned his MA and EdS degrees in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Paul enjoys hanging out with his family, but also traveling to see and experience new things. Paul’s hobbies include kayaking, biking, running, and “experiencing the solace of nature.” He also enjoys reading and watching movies.

Paul describes Grinnell College as “unique and dynamic and ultimately a very interesting place. It is progressive but also steeped in tradition. It attracts fascinating students, faculty, and staff who are interested in making the world a better place.”

In Student Health and Wellness (SHAW), Paul’s primary focus is to provide mental health counseling to students. Additionally, he tries to provide outreach programming as much as possible because “it is fun and I get to reach out to the students who may never show up in my office for counseling, but could still benefit from some psychoeducation.”

SHAW is located on the lower level of the Forum and offers a variety of medical and counseling services.  For more information, please visit SHAW or call 641-269-3230.
