Social justice is inherent at Grinnell College, and DEI is inherent in social responsibility. By definition:
- Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs.
- Equity denotes fair and just practices and policies that allow all campus community members to thrive. Being equitable means acknowledging and addressing structural inequalities, historic and current, that provide advantages for some and disadvantages for others.
- Inclusion refers to a campus community where all are — and feel — respected, have a sense of belonging, and are able to both participate and achieve their full potential.
The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a dynamic team that provides opportunities to engage in brave and challenging dialogues and actions, and collaborates with campus and community partners to achieve our mission, vision, and goals.
