Trained a literary scholar, my research and teaching engage a diverse array of literary texts from pre-modern China. I am particularly interested in the relationships between gender and genre, literature and politics, and poetry and painting of medieval China.

My first book project, based on my doctoral dissertation, examines the representation of divorced women in poetry, dynastic histories, as well as ritual, legal, medical, and epitaphic texts from the Early Medieval Period (1st through 7th century CE). The Early Medieval Period is a fascinating period spanning several hundred years of constant warfare, during which time many literary, cultural, philosophical and religious developments reached their first apex in China.

I received my Ph.D. in pre-modern Chinese literature from the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University (2016). Prior to Grinnell, I taught at Swarthmore College (2016-17) and Colgate University (2015-16).
