Gallery of Flags

Grinnell's Gallery of Flags hangs above the Spencer Grill in the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center. A plaque on the east wall of the grill provides a key to the countries and corresponding flags, as well as the following inscription:

“These flags represent the different nationalities* of the current Grinnell student body. Grinnell students come from every part of the world, and the combination of their diverse backgrounds creates a unique environment on our campus. This display will change every year, as new students arrive and others graduate. Since no flag can fully represent a person’s sense of home, we invite you to get to know our students individually and to learn about the countries from which they come.”

The gallery is updated each fall, to celebrate the nationalities of our current student body — including international students as well as U.S. citizens and permanent residents who maintain foreign citizenship. When determining eligibility for the gallery, we include countries that are recognized by the United Nations; entities recognized by the International Olympics Committee; and the passports held by enrolled students.

Questions about the gallery can be directed to the Office of International Student Affairs.
