The Nancy Schmulbach Maly ’61 International Student Leadership Award is presented annually -- to recognize campus leadership and community engagement of students who have crossed international borders to attend Grinnell College. Staff and faculty are invited to nominate third-year students, and a small committee selects the final recipient. The award is presented each April, during the Division of Student Affairs Awards Ceremony. A plaque in the HSSC Global Living Room lists the recipients.
This award honors Nancy Schmulbach Maly’s extraordinary legacy of leadership and service to Grinnell’s global student body. In the 1970’s, Maly launched the College’s international student recruitment and admission program and served as its initial coordinator. Her commitment to student success and belonging also prompted the initial ‘international advisor’ position, which has evolved into the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA).
