The 2023 Bachelor of Arts Exhibition (BAX), which features works in the creative arts by third- and fourth-year Grinnell College students, opens on Friday, April 21, in the Grinnell College Museum of Art. The exhibition will be on display through May 22.

Jonathan deLima, who manages the contemporary corporate art collection for the Krause Group, and Iowa-based artist Jill Wells, will serve as the 2023 co-jurors of BAX. deLima oversees art locations in the US and Europe and developed the art program for Des Moines’ Krause Gateway Center, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Previously, he was at Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, and he has also consulted for private, corporate, and public collections.

Jill Wells is known for her dynamic, colorful, and tactile multimedia works investigating race, history, stereotypes, accessibility, and human experiences. Wells is a 2005 graduate of Drake University with a BFA. Her work engages with individuals of all abilities, through various interdisciplinary art workshops and talks to create new modes of working through the arts that is truly inclusive.

deLima and Wells will participate in a lunchtime discussion with Grinnell College students and mentor many students individually before announcing the awards at the opening ceremony.

A team of five Grinnell College students worked closely with Milton Severe, GCMoA Director of Exhibition Design, to organize this year’s BAX Exhibition. They include: Jillian Bhuyan ’24, Georgia Carbone ’24, Mordecai Gonzalez Rodriguez ’23, Stella Lowery ’24, and Karis McCaskill ‘24.

The Grinnell College Museum of Art is free and open Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday noon to 5 pm. For more information, please visit grinnell.edu/museum or call 641-269-4660.
