Grinnell College is offering "Astronomy for Everyone," a short, informal course for anyone with an interest in astronomy, regardless of age.

The free, public class will take place in the Grant O. Gale Observatory, 1203 10th Ave., Grinnell. The three class sessions will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays: April 20, April 27, and May 4.

Each session will provide an opportunity to learn about some aspect of the universe and the objects in it, followed by viewing through the observatory’s 24-inch telescope (weather permitting). Skywatching without a telescope, as well as use of participants’ own telescopes, also will be covered.

Robert Cadmus, Breid-McFarland professor of science, professor of physics and director of the observatory, will teach the class. There is no charge for the class, but participants should register no later than Tuesday, April 18, by calling 641-269-3172.

Details of the separate summer program for middle school students interested in astronomy will be announced later.
