Following is a brief summary of the Town Hall meetings on sustainability, held Thursday, Nov. 13. More than 70 people attended the noon session and around 40 came to the evening session. Your support and participation is truly appreciated.

Thank you to Liz Queathem, Chris Bair ’97, President Raynard S. Kington, and others who helped answer many good and thoughtful questions.

Discussions were overwhelmingly respectful. Among the topics mentioned:

  • Potentially offering separate dining plans for vegetarians
  • Making the dining hall more sustainable
  • Growing more food on campus, possibly in greenhouses
  • How the College is moving forward after its wind energy project plans fell through
  • Potential divestment from non-sustainable companies
  • Including more native species in future landscaping projects
  • Adding sub-meters to residence halls and other buildings
  • Getting more students involved or interested in sustainability
  • Potentially working with alumni on sustainable energy at the policy level
  • Students more actively partnering with professors, administrators, and trustees to plan and execute long-term sustainability projects
