Elisabeth Kille ’23 crafted global educational experiences to work in, learn from, and explore different cultures using her Grinnell experiences. She worked an internship for Chile, went abroad to Greece, and made amazing Grinnellian friends along the way!
Evan Hurst ’21 studied local LGBTQ+ history, interned at a Seattle filmmakers’ collective, explored the prairies of Iowa, and discovered that they are, in fact, a cat person.
Elizabeth Collinger ’21 explored her passion for music, language, synchronized swimming, and more during her journey that took her all around the midwestern United States and down through South America.
Conner Stanfield ’21 sang a cappella at his professor’s wedding, conducted research (and performed!) with a professional theatre company in Taiwan, and explored the United Kingdom during an off-campus semester based in London.
Nina Kouchi ’22 loved how welcoming and curious the students were when she visited Grinnell. Her excitement about Grinnell has only grown as she has traveled across the country for golf, explored the town of Grinnell, carried out a computer science Mentored Advanced Project, and spent time enjoying Iowa’s natural beauty.
Catherine Stone ’22 came to Grinnell excited about the small classes, the close relationships with faculty, and the powerful student voice. She quickly became involved in the community and with Grinnell Concerts. While working her way toward medical school, she has also immersed herself in the environment through ecology courses, and in language and culture through French courses.
Grinnell College has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations to expand its efforts in recruiting and supporting transfer students from both two- and four-year institutions.
When Sophie Jackson ’22 visited Grinnell, she was enamored by the diversity, authenticity, and openness of the students she interacted with. Those interactions continued throughout her four years and developed into friendships and relationships that she will continue to value after graduation. She similarly valued her experiences with service, research, advocacy, the Rosenfield Program, internships, externships, study abroad, and getting to know Grinnell.
Ahon Gooptu’s (’21) passion for theater and care for community took him from Kolkata, India to Grinnell — and then to London, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and more! Along the way, he studied Shakespeare, discovered the power of digital storytelling, and completed mentored research projects.
Your campus and classroom experience is going to challenge you to grow and expand your understanding of the world. But there is much that can be learned off campus, too.
Students experience random acts of kindness around the town here, and there are myriad opportunities to participate and find a seat at the table as active and engaged citizens.
Many of your fellow students become personally involved in a community, social, or educational endeavor off campus, which strengthens their college experience. I hope you will be part of this movement.

Many students come from very different backgrounds than my own, and it has been fascinating to hear about their lives and share about mine with them. Despite our differences, I’m always able to find wonderful similarities.
Many students say that taking a break from campus life to spend time with their mentee has been a highlight of their time in our community.

I had no idea what four years in Iowa was going to be like, and that turned out to be perfect for me.

I am an active member in the Grinnell community. I have found my passion for social justice and being an advocate for people in need. During my four years, I have felt so much support and love, which have helped me blossom into the person I am today.
I am taking every opportunity that I have been granted. I am on the football team and on my way toward a double major and a concentration. I have completed a MAP [Mentored Advanced Project] and look forward to future internships made possible by Grinnell. I would otherwise not be able to afford this education. I am so grateful for my time and experience thus far.
