Media Records and Media IDs
Throughout the handbook, you will see references to media records and media IDs as well as media ID links.
When you add an image, video, quote, or file/document, Drupal will ask about related information such as alt text, file names, photographer, etc. and save it in a media record.
Drupal identifies this record using a unique identifier, e.g. media/999. By referring to the file this way, Drupal can ensure the most recent version of the file and it's settings are always used. Update it once, and the change will be reflected everywhere.
For this reason, always link to media records using the media ID link. See “How to Link to Your Document” on Files and Documents for more information.
