The Grinnell College Music Department will showcase Rova Saxophone Quartet Concert Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Associate Professor of Music Mark Laver and students from the tutorial class and jazz ensemble collaboration, “We Travel the Spaceways: Space Chants and Future Sounds," share insights on the project’s inception, what construction and preparation has been like, and what the audience of the final performance can expect.

Hip-Hop Culture and Digital Practice (MUS-202) uses the tools and language of contemporary hip-hop to help you better understand both the music and its cultural context. From day one, you’ll be immersed in the study, creation, and performance of music with an African American aesthetic and production style that is frequently underrepresented in academia.

In Introduction to Music Studies (MUS 100), you will explore music and the ways it can shape our lives. You will expand your understanding of music’s importance in our society as a formative component of history, culture, identity, and creativity, while learning some basic skills that can help you become more creative, skilled, and equitable musicians yourselves.

Through her experiences in distinguished summer festivals and on-campus performance ensembles, Claire Davis ’22 found her place within the music department as well as a path to her future.

Featuring guest artist Michela Marino Lerman and all-original student music by the Grinnell Jazz Ensemble, Digital Music Making, and Tap is Music, under the direction of Visiting Professor, Daniel Oore.
