Group Info Content Type

Who Are You?

Group Info webpages are "homepages" for academic departments, offices, teams, and committees. Use them to explain your group, highlight accomplishments, share news, and more.

At the bottom of Group Info webpages, visitors can find standard information like the office email, phone numbers, hours, and location. Academic pages also display the department chairs.

Group Info supports most components and dedicated fields near the bottom make it easy for visitors to quickly find key information.

See Content Types for instructions on adding, editing, and removing nodes.

Group Info Fields

Screen shot of site areas field with "stude" filled in and drop-down list with options to choose from

Start typing your Drupal editorial group, usually your department, and select it from the drop-down list. You can enter more than one editorial group to allow editors from other areas to edit the node.

Page Title Field - required

Enter a title that describes your group. This is normally your group's name.

The title is used as:

  • The page title that shows up in search results.
  • The Heading 1 for the page.
Hero image field with Add Image button

Click the Add Image to open the Add Image dialog box.

Hero images span the top of the page and add visual interest to your page.

A good hero image:

  • is at least 1600 pixels wide x 526 pixels tall
  • looks good if it loses a little from the bottom or up to 20% from each side
  • is under 500KB

Hero images are responsive and will re-crop on the fly. Use preview and focus to make sure any crop includes the primary focus of your image.

See Images for instructions on choosing and preparing your image, setting the focus, and using the Add Media dialog box to add an image.

We generally don't use subtitles on group pages. If you decide to add one, it will appear below the title.

You must add at least one component. To do so, select a component from the dropdown list and click Add Component.

Some components commonly used on group info pages include:

You can add other components either in Body or in Components Below Content.

Address information fields showing country of United States with 2 address lines and fields for city state and zip

Use Address Information to enter a street address for your group to the bottom of your page.

To do so:

  1. Look for the Country field. If you can't see one, click the word Address with an arrow next to it to open the section.
  2. Select a country from the Country field. Drupal will display several fields to let you enter an address for that country.
  3. Add the address following address standards for the country. On campus, you may add a building and a room number, where appropriate, to the first line of the address and enter the street address in the second line.

Drupal will display this information in a Department Information block at the bottom of your page.

If you have a departmental email address, phone number, or fax, enter them here.

Email, phone, and fax will appear in the Department Information block along with the address.

Enter simple office hours in this block. They will appear at the bottom of the Department Information block.

Note: Although the field allows you to adding headings, lists, and images, they do not work well in this area. If you have complex hours, we recommend adding a component in the Components Below Content area to hold them.

If you want to associate your group info page with a department chair or office department head, select the correct group here.

Notes:

  • See Faculty and Staff Profiles on how to tag a person as an academic department chair or the head of an administrative office.
  • Contact us if you don't see your area listed.

If you enter a group and your department chair/head has been marked as such, their information will appear in a Department Chair block.
